Lecture Slide 23, Challenges in Failure Handling;

• Masking/hiding
  - Some failures can be hidden or made less severe
  - Replication in space/time
  - May not work in worst cases, e.g all disks may have been corrupted.

• Tolerance
  - Sometimes not feasible to hide all failures
